Unique Family Needs

Careful preplanning will be necessary for household members with special needs. Here are some items to include in your codeReady kit and some tips that will help ensure their comfort and safety during an emergency.

Infant Needs

Diapers
Pacifier
Bottles
Medications
Baby wipes
Diaper rash ointment

If your infant is currently being breastfed, continue with this method of feeding instead of switching to infant formula. The cleanest, safest food for your infant is breast milk.

Adult Needs

Prescription medicines (at least a one-week supply).
List of any routine treatments administered by a clinic, hospital or home health care, and a back-up service provider.
Supplies for other personal needs, such as eyeglasses, dentures, contact lenses, hearing aids, wheelchair and oxygen.

Seniors Needs

List of serial numbers, operating information and instructions for medical devices and equipment.
Extra pair of glasses and hearing aid batteries.
Copies of medical insurance and Medicare cards.
Teach other household members to operate any special medical equipment.
Label any equipment (wheelchairs, canes, and walkers) with name and contact information.
Make plans for a back-up system for caregivers.

Disabled Persons Needs

Medical alert tags that identify disability
Special equipment (such as wheelchair batteries)
